Trading Simulator

Our Trading Simulator supports 2 modes: offline and online. Offline Simulator works any time you want, anywhere – because it uses historical price data saved locally on your computer. Offline Simulator is used for back testing.

Online Simulator provides access to live prices for 10 main currency pairs – without any account. Online mode requires a decent Internet connection, and it only works when the Forex market is open.

Online Simulator

Online Simulator is the easiest to use. Go to the Products tab and click the Use button for the Online Simulator. You will be redirected to the Real time tab.

Now, select a currency pair from the drop-down list located on the left of the Toolbar and then click the green Play button to start an online test.

The software will switch to the Simulation tab and will start receiving live prices from TrueFX.com. Now, you can watch the market action and place orders.

If you want to try another currency pair, you need to click the Stop button on the Toolbar first.

Offline Simulator

Go to the Products tab and click the Use button for the Offline Simulator. You will be redirected to the Data tab.

Click on Load sample data – button. For your convenience, the software provides inbuilt quotes file with 2 days of price data. Select a start time for the test (for example, you can try the European session). Now you are all set!

Click the green Play button on the Toolbar and the test will start. The software will switch to the Simulation tab where you can monitor the market and place your orders. For more details, check out our step-by-step guide.

This should get you started. If something is unclear – check the inbuilt help. The most important help is duplicated on each tab – click the blue “?” icons to view.

Some tips. The software works best in Full HD resolution. For 4K displays, do not set the smallest text size (125% is good enough). You can resize almost all graphs and tables / panes with a mouse. To change the graph’s parameters, right click on a graph and use its context menu. Left click on a graph activates the zoom feature – you can research market price action and trades with a single tick accuracy.

Advanced features

Such features as varying tick replay speed and Time shifting enable you to significantly cut the time you need to spend on your trading practice.

varying offline replay speed

The rate at which prices change in the market varies greatly. Around major news announcements there can be wild swings with over 10 price values or ticks every second. However, most of the time we have 1 to 2 new ticks a second. And during slower Asian trading sessions there can be no new ticks at all for over a minute.

In addition, in periods of market consolidation or when the market is ranging, there can be hundreds, or even thousands, of ticks as the market inches higher, then reverses lower for an extended time frame inside a narrow price channel.
During slow trading you can Fast Forward.

In most cases, at least 2X speed is still comfortable enough for you to watch and base trading decisions from. But double speed means you are only spending ½ of the time needed to follow the same market action in real time. And quite often, you will be comfortable watching on even higher speeds.

And the software has even faster replay speeds so you can quickly advance through slower periods of price action. Very handy.

This is like watching a recorded TV show. If you fast forward commercials and dull moments, you will spend much less time than if you watched live. In this analogy, commercial breaks correspond to extended intervals between ticks and dull moments are periods when the market goes nowhere.

A Slow-Motion mode is helpful to practice e.g. news trading, where there can be more than 10 new ticks each second. In slow motion you can see it unfold frame-by-frame.

Time shifting (online)

With this clever feature, you can put live data feed on hold. Once you have captured enough data, you can resume the feed and have all the data rate manipulation options available as in the above TV recording analogy.
